Bethany Hall-Long Selected to Lead National Lieutenant Governors Association
Delaware’s Lieutenant Governor is currently serving as an officer of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). The NLGA is the professional association for the second-highest ranking officials in all fifty (50) states and the U.S. territories.
Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long is now serving as Chair of the NLGA Executive Committee. “The lieutenant governor was chosen and confirmed to this position bi-partisanly by her peers from across the nation,” said NLGA Executive Director Julia Brossart.
“As Chair, Lt. Governor Hall-Long will work with her colleagues to promote shared priorities and to find and foster multi-state solutions to mutual problems," said Hurst. “Through NLGA, the nation's lieutenant governors influence the national dialogue on areas of common ground and shared concern for the benefit of Delaware, its people, and all states."
“I want to thank my fellow Lieutenant Governors for the honor of entrusting me as the Chair of the NLGA,” said Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long. “Now more than ever, it’s important that we come together to collaborate with one another and help find real solutions to the problems our country is facing. The NLGA is the ideal place for that cooperation to occur, and I hope to use my experience as a nurse and a public health professor to provide bipartisan leadership that enables my colleagues around the country to work for stronger and healthier communities.”
The committee meets three times a year to chart issues and work to be pursued by the nation’s officeholders first in line of gubernatorial succession. Lt. Governor Hall-Long serves until July of 2020.
Lt. Governor Hall-Long was elected Delaware’s 26th lieutenant governor in 2016. During her term as Lt. Governor, she has worked to improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable Delawareans. Combating addiction, fighting cancer and health inequities and creating a stronger behavioral health system has been the focus of her public service. She was the leading voice behind the creation of the Behavioral Health Consortium and serves as its Chair.
In 2018 she launched the Lt. Governor’s Challenge 2.0 to shine a light on the impact leaders in our State have made to promote wellness, both physical and emotional health and to inspire others to live healthier lives.
Currently she is serving as the Co-Chair of the Pandemic Resurgence Advisory Committee.
