Virtual Roundtable with Rep. Debra Heffernan
This morning we joined representatives from DuPont, The Chemours Company, Corteva Agriscience and FMC Corporation for a virtual roundtable discussion with Representative Debra Heffernan. We want to thank those of you that participated for providing valuable updates on each of your companies’ COVID-19 response efforts and the best practices you have employed to maintain a safe workplace for your employees.
Representative Heffernan understands the critical role the chemical industry has played in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, but she was genuinely impressed to hear all of the ways CICD member companies have stepped up during this time. She requested that we provide her a summary of CICD member company efforts that she can share with her colleagues in the General Assembly.
Though we remain vigilant as the legislature resumes meetings remotely, Rep. Heffernan confirmed that the body will be focused on noncontroversial and COVID-19 related bills. Prior to the pandemic, CICD worked with Rep. Heffernan on two proactive pieces of legislation – our model advanced recycling bill that was introduced last year and a new model bill developed in partnership with ACC that would require DNREC to propose MCLs for certain PFAS compounds. Rep. Heffernan reiterated her commitment to both pieces of legislation but confirmed it is unlikely that they will move this year.
Please let us know if you have any questions about our conversation with Rep. Heffernan.
